DEVT 3100 - Aid Policy and Practice

North Terrace Campus - Winter - 2015

This course examines issues related to aid effectiveness. It begins by examining the scholarly debate over whether aid has been effective in promoting economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries in recent decades. It then moves on to a discussion of the factors that shape aid effectiveness, focusing on both contextual anthropological and political economy factors and factors related to the ways in which donors deliver and administer aid. The second part of the course will also look at some of the social/anthropological knowledge/skills that are used in development assistance programs and field practices.
