PSYCHOL 7401EX - Regimental Officer Basic Course

External - Semester 2 - 2014

The aim of course is to equip trainees with clinical psychological skills that can be applied in a variety of settings such as the Australian Defence Force. The course covers psychological testing and the maintenance of psychological documentation in accordance with legislation and APS Code of Conduct. The course also covers psychological assessment and counselling, counselling micro skills and brief interventions (psycho education for individuals and groups, arousal reduction techniques, sleep and fatigue management, grief, anger management and psychological first aid). Mental health screening (following operational deployment and critical incidents), front-line intervention for people with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) issues and suicide first aid are included in the course. The course is an intensive 30 day residential course with lectures, practicals and assessments.
