Whilst these topics are not the 'essential' knowledge & skills of clinical practice, an understanding of topics such as quality management and mental health does influence the care provided by professional nurses practicing within the perioperative environment.

Learning & Teaching Activities
Learning & Teaching ModesThis course will be delivered through flexible delivery mode with online classroom contact, via MyUni. Lecture content will be self-running online presentations linked to relevant electronic resources such as professional documents, websites and e-books.
Online classroom contact will be via MyUni discussion boards and blogs to debate the content for the module and to discuss how students would apply the knowledge into their clinical practice setting.
The information below is provided as a guide to assist students in engaging appropriately with the course requirements.It is expected that you will need to invest about12 hours per week of study to successfully complete this course. This includes all study activities, virtual classrooms, readings and assessment. Thus some weeks it will be more and others less. It is recommended that you plan your time commitment to the course at the beginning of the semester.

- A computer – either a PC – based or a Macintosh-based machine with Windows or OS-X with Java (An application for Blackboard Collaborate is available for free for Smartphones or Tablets on Android or Apple store)

Assessment DetailEssay outline - (500 words) Over the 12 weeks of the semester, students will find topics covered that can either directly or indirectly impact onto our daily practices as an anaesthetic and recovery nurse. In the Essay outline students are to choose a topic and briefly write an outline for the essay assignment. As this is a formative assessment there is no grade attached to this assessment piece. It does however allow the student to receive feedback on their academic writing, and allows them to develop their skills required for successful completion of further assessments
Essay – (1800 words) Developing on from the students essay outline students will discuss their topic of choice in terms of how it impact on the patients that are care for within the perioperative environment. Discussion should be structure around identifying problems encountered as well as possible solution or process which could be implemented.
Discussion Board Part A & B
1000 words for both part A & part B
200 words for each Discussion Board entry
Within the MyUni course, students will find the Discussion Board. Each week has a discussion topic that needs to be discussed and debated. Question and issues for reflection and analysis are included with each week’s guideline. Each student must provide their thoughts on these discussion topics. All thoughts must be supported by relevant literature.
Participation and conversation amongst students is encouraged, however students must include one formal discussion board entry for each week via MyUni that is referenced.
SubmissionAssessments, unless otherwise stated in your Study guide, are to be submitted electronically via Assignments in MyUni on the due date identified in this Study guide. Instructions for assignment submission are available for all students under Tutorials at www.adelaide.edu.au/myuni/.
An Assignment Coversheet must be submitted with each assessment. The coversheet should be the first page of your assessment. All assessments should be submitted by the specified due date.
Late submission of work
Late submission without an approved extension will be penalised at the rate of 10% of available marks for each day after the due date. Work submitted more than 10 days after the due date may be returned unmarked. This action will be taken to prevent students who do get their work in on time being disadvantaged.
You are advised to comply with word limits. You are, of course, not expected to achieve exactly the required length and a 10% leeway on either side is acceptable. However a penalty of 5% of available marks will apply for word limit of the 10% leeway.
