Students are able to understand the most important principles underlying the application of the most common biostatistical techniques, including probability testing, comparing means and proportions, linear regression and correlation and parametric and non-parametric methods; list examples of studies in dental sleep medicine which have used qualitative research techniques, quantitative research techniques and systematic reviews; understand the different metrics used to assess research quality for both journals and individual publications; and apply their understanding of the research methods to critically appraise the current evidence for the use of oral appliance therapy as a treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea.
