This introductory course provides an overview of a methodical, research informed approach to understanding contemporary Australian society. Throughout the semester we explore a range of ways by which the structure of Australian society can be examined, we investigate a number of pressing social problems, and we look into the processes of social change. Key concepts include: class/socioeconomic status, gender, youth, ethnicity, family, work, consumption and location as structuring aspects of society.
