This course will prepare students for the transition from coursework of the DVM 2 year through the workplace-based learning in the DVM 3 year and on to entry into the veterinary profession. Students will work through cases as an introduction into final year. Further development of clinical communication skills and financial and business awareness will occur. Seminars on what to expect and how to prepare for work as a practitioner will be presented. End of program final examinations will occur in the final weeks of the year.

Learning & Teaching Activities
Learning & Teaching ModesTopics in the course will be presented in 4 1-week blocks across the final year. Content will be presented in the form of all day seminars, workshops, and a field trip. Timetabling of content will be coordinated each year with the core clinical rotations and elective topic to optimise learning.

This course occurs in four separate 1 week blocks across Semesters 1 & 2. Students will be expected to prepare daily for their activities in the given weeks. An average day will consist of approximately 7-8 hours.
Learning Activities SummaryThe course content includes the following:
Week 1: Introduction to Rotations, communications, clinic OH&S and business management systems
Week 2: Business and other life skills for the new veterinary graduate
Week 3: Clinical cases, veterinary registration and insurance and optional practical on use of firearms
Week 4: Top 10 clinical problems across domestic species
Specific Course RequirementsAttendance at each day of the course is compulsory. Students will be able to apply for an approved absence for extenuating circumstances with appropriate supporting documents, Students absent without approval will automatically fail the course.

Assessment DetailAll assessment items will be standard set for competency and the marks used to calculate the composite score adjusted according to standard setting. Students are required to attain an overall composite score from all assessment tasks equal to or greater than the minimum level of competency to achieve an NGP. Students who narrowly miss meeting the required standard to achieve an NGP may be offered some form of additional assessment.
Written examination (50% weighting of course): Students will undertake two 3hr theory examinations at the end of year based on the course syllabus.
Practical Examination (50% weighting of course): Students will undertake a practical examinationat the end of the year.
SubmissionIf an extension is not applied for, or not granted then a penalty for late submission will apply. A mark of zero will be allocated to late submitted assessment.
Grades for your performance in this course will be awarded in accordance with the following scheme:
