PEACE 3002 - Peace and Conflict Advanced Research Project

North Terrace Campus - Semester 2 - 2021

This capstone course for the Bachelor of Peace and Conflict Studies enables student to synthesize, consolidate and apply their previously acquired knowledge and skills. Students will undertake a substantial research project (designing a peace-building / conflict resolution strategy) which requires independent investigation. Students will choose their own topic for this research project from one of the following areas: 1) Peace/Conflict Prevention; 2) Conflict Containment/Peacekeeping; 3) Conflict Ending/Peacemaking; 4) Post-conflict Reconstruction; 5) Peacebuilding; 6) Reconciliation. They will then select a specific country or region and will design a comprehensive strategy that addresses their chosen area (e.g. reconciliation) and is tailored to address the specificities of their geographic context (e.g. particular historical, political, socio-cultural and/or environmental factors). They will write a strategy that proposes a range of practical activities and related objectives. Their strategy will reflect current knowledge, policies and practices in regards to the chosen topic, and will provide feasible recommendations / guidelines regarding how conflict resolution strategies can be improved / implemented in the chosen context.
