How Do I Enrol?

Both new and continuing students are responsible for their own enrolment and this site will guide you through the process.

  • You will need your University of Adelaide student id number and password. Enter 'a' before your student id number to gain access e.g. a1234567.
  • Enrol into all the courses required for the full academic year ensuring they meet your program requirements.
  • If you are commencing your studies mid-year, enrol into the courses required only for the second half of the academic year.
  • Any outstanding financial obligations to the University need to be paid before you can enrol.

You will be able to enrol from any computer with internet access either on or off campus. Enrolment into programs is staggered during enrolment periods see the open times for the date and time you can start enrolling into your program.

You must ensure that all information you provide whether about enrolments, personal or other matters is correct, complete and accurate for legal compliance.

Stage 1: preparation

    Research your courses before you enrol online.

    Program and course advice

    If you are commencing a program for the first time at the beginning of the academic year, click on 'Faculty/School enrolment' and check the relevant website for advice about course selection and information. You should seek out all the courses required in your program and enrol for the full academic year.

    For building and room locations, view a map of the North Terrace campus.

    Check for detailed information and study plans. You must choose courses that are compliant with the rules for your academic program.


    Faculty websites will provide details how to apply for credit for studies successfully completed at another tertiary institution.

    Student ID number and password

    Your unique Student ID number and password allow you to access a range of  online services. You will be able to log onto Orientation - Getting Started, to activate your student account and create a password. Then select EnrolMe - the student portal, to complete your student checklist, update your address and telephone details, enter required statistical data, enrol online, and view your results for your Semester or Term when they become available. Have you forgotten your password? If yes, have your personal email account handy. Remember to enter 'a' before your number eg a1234567.

    Email account

    Make sure you activate your student email account and create a password when you've logged into Orientation - Getting Started. Your student email account is the most common method of communication across the University and it is important that you check it frequently. For other purposes, such as password regeneration, you will need to provide a personal email account.

    Returning to study after a break?

    If you want to resume studies in your program after a lengthy break, contact your Faculty Office so that your student record can be updated to allow online enrolment.

  • Step 2: Plan your timetable

    Two tools are available to help plan your timetable - you can use COURSE PLANNER and/or TIMETABLE PLANNER.

    Course planner

    Print copies of the class planner worksheet (pdf file) then open course planner to review classes for your program and develop a timetable.

    • All classes (lectures, tutorials etc) for a course are grouped together and you are required to enrol into all required classes for each semester or term.
    • A course may comprise several types of classes - for example a lecture, tutorial and practical.
    • Some courses have an automated process set up so that when you select one class in Access Adelaide, it automatically enrols you into another class (generally you will select each related class from a drop-down list).
    • The 'enrolment' component is the key to the whole process, you must select this class first, then you will be presented with any related classes to choose from.
    • You should enrol into all your classes for all semesters/terms for the upcoming year.
    • Note that although Course Planner displays starting times for classes at the hour or half hour, formal teaching commences at 10 minutes before the start of the class to incorporate 'travelling time across campus' e.g. a 4.00pm class will start at 4.10pm.

    Course planner details and important dates

    You should note the class numbers, details about the semester/term including last day to add courses online, census date, last day to Withdraw No Fail and Withdraw Fail. These dates are important. If you want to drop the course, you must do so by the census date or you WILL incur a financial liability and have a WNF or WF result on your record.

    Timetable planner

    Timetable Planner (available from mid January) can be accessed via Access Adelaide and is a tool that allows you to enter your courses, teaching period, campus and any breaks you want to develop a selection of clash free timetables.

    Note this is a timetable planning tool only. It doesn't guarantee you a place in your planned classes. Your place is confirmed when you have enrolled successfully in Access Adelaide. For detailed instructions how to use this tool refer to the timetable planner user guide.

    Other information

    If in any semester, enrolment numbers for a particular course are less than the minimum specified by the Faculty, the Faculty is not bound to offer that course. Any students wishing to enrol in such a course will be counselled about suitable alternatives. The availability of courses may also be conditional upon the availability of staff and resources. Faculties may set quotas for enrolment in individual courses and will publish the selection criteria for the filling of these quotas. Faculties may also restrict enrolment in individual courses in accordance with Academic Program Rules.

Stage 2: enrol online

  • Step 3: Log in

    Log in to Orientation - Getting Started.

    After activating your email account, proceed to EnrolMe which is the student portal where you complete your checklist, make decisions about financial matters, and enrol into your courses for all your semesters/terms for the academic year.

    Your username and password for EnrolMe and Access Adelaide (where you enrol) is the same as your username and password for email, MyUni and logging on to on-campus computers. The university emails your username (student ID number) to you after you first receive an offer for a place at our university. When you activate your student account online, you will be able to create a password. Make sure this is something you will remember, and do not share it with anyone.

    Your username is a lower case "a" followed by your student number, for example, a1234567. Your student number is provided to you by the University, and will appear on your student ID card.

    Forgotten your password? – although you can’t have your password reset over the phone, many options are available. Either regenerate a new password online, or see the staff in person at Ask Adelaide, Hub Central at the North Terrace Campus, or contact the Ask Adelaide staff who can provide you with a replacement password. Have your personal email account handy as this will be useful.

    Know your password but can’t log on?

    This may be because the system has reached its peak load, so try again later and if you still can’t log on contact the enrolment hotline on 8313 3833 for assistance.

  • Step 4: Complete your enrolment checklist

    Before you can enrol into classes, you must complete each item on a checklist that requires you to add or update information about yourself. Write in plain English, and use correct spelling.

    Any outstanding financial obligations to the University need to be paid before you can enrol.

    The checklist consists of the following items.


    Read this information carefully before you select ‘I Agree’ as this indicates that you agree to be bound by the statutes, regulations, rules and policies of the University and the release of information to statutory authorities, as required by law.

    If the personal details listed are incorrect, seek advice from the staff at Ask Adelaide, Hub Central, North Terrace Campus (T 8313 5208).


    You must provide a current address. Do not list a University academic or administrative area as your home or mailing address.

    Home address

    • you must have a residential home address and cannot provide a PO Box
    • if you are a temporary resident in Australia, your home address must be an overseas address.

    Mailing address

    • if you are a permanent resident or Australian citizen you don’t have to enter a mailing address unless you want mail from the University to be sent somewhere other than your home address
    • once you’ve entered a mailing address you must keep it up to date
    • if you are a temporary resident in Australia you must provide an Australian mailing address.

    Billing address

    Only provide a billing address if you want your University invoices sent to an address different from your home or mailing address. This address will appear on your notice. If a third party (employer, sponsor or parents) is paying your fees, it is your responsibility to forward your invoice by post or electronically.

    Telephone numbers

    It’s important to keep your telephone contact details up to date. You can enter various types of phone numbers, change any existing numbers or delete a number that is no longer valid.

    Emergency contact

    The University needs to know who you would like us to contact in the event of an emergency. This could be a parent, guardian, relative or close friend - someone local, interstate or overseas.


    The University has a legal obligation to collect information on behalf of the Commonwealth Government and it’s important that the information you provide is accurate and correct.

    Information that is already on your record will be displayed, so please check and update any information that is incorrect. Note that you can’t change your citizenship details online. You must provide appropriate documentary evidence to staff either in person at Ask Adelaide, Hub Central, North Terrace Campus, or by post to Student Finance, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide SA 5005 to change this information.

    Fee status

    This displays the current fee status recorded against your program(s).

    If you are a Commonwealth Supported student you must complete a Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form. This includes students that are New Zealand Citizens and Permanent Residents who are eligible to enrol as Commonwealth Supported students.

    If you are enrolling in more than one program you will be required to complete a form for each program for which you are Commonwealth Supported.

    Domestic fee paying students may be eligible to apply for FEE-HELP assistance by completing the Request for FEE-HELP Assistance form.

    Both the HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP forms can be completed electronically by choosing the appropriate screen options.

    International Students should check that their fee status is correctly recorded as “International”.

    Request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP

    Commonwealth Supported students must complete a Request for Commonwealth Support form once for each program in which they are enrolled. Before completing this form you must read the information for Commonwealth supported students booklet, available from (external link) (hardcopy is available from Ask Adelaide, Hub Central, North Terrace Campus) to understand your obligations.

    Upon successful completion of the form you will be given a receipt number and given the option to print your completed form. It is recommended that you print your form, as this is the only opportunity you will have to do so. If you choose not to print your form it is strongly recommended that you note your receipt number.

    Request for FEE-HELP assistance

    FEE-HELP is a loan facility that helps eligible students to pay their tuition fees. It is a scheme that operates in a similar way to HECS-HELP in that eligible students can borrow from the Commonwealth government for some or all of their tuition fees (within set limits) and repay this through the taxation system.

    Domestic students that wish to apply for FEE-HELP must complete this form once for each program. Before completing this form you must read the FEE-HELP Information booklet, available from (external link) (hardcopy is available from Ask Adelaide, Hub Central, North Terrace Campus) to understand your obligations.

    Upon successful completion of the form you will be given a receipt number and given the option to print your completed form. It is recommended that you print your form, as this is the only opportunity you will have to do so. If you choose not to print your form it is strongly recommended that you note your receipt number.

    Please note that you cannot successfully complete this form without providing your Tax File Number (TFN). If you do not have a TFN and have applied to the Australian Taxation Office for one, it is strongly recommended that you obtain a certificate from them and provide it to Ask Adelaide. You must provide either your TFN or a certificate of application for a TFN to the University before the census date. If you do not do so you are not eligible to use FEE-HELP and will be required to pay your full tuition directly to the University.

    Expected completion

    You must enter the year and teaching period you expect to complete your studies. This information is important as it allows us to contact you electronically and provide information about graduation ceremonies and what you need to do to prepare for your graduation. If you are currently enrolled in more than one program, you must indicate your expected completion year and semester/term for each program.

  • Step 5: Enrol in all your classes

    In Access Adelaide, select the semester/term in which you want to enrol. If you have already completed your checklist, you can add, swap or amend classes by selecting 'Enrolment' from the 'Student' menu on the left.

    Click on 'Add' to start enrolling. If you don't see an Add button you are not eligible to enrol online. Contact the enrolment hotline +61 8 8313 3833 for assistance.

    If you are active in more than one program, first select the program where you wish to add classes. Ensure you add your course to the relevant program so that your progress can be correctly calculated.

    You can then enter the enrolment class number you entered on your Class Planner Worksheet, or if you don't know the number, search Course Planner. All of the enrolment classes that meet your search criteria will be displayed. There may be more than one enrolment class to choose from for each course.

    The details of each class are listed, as well as the dates, days, times and locations. All classes will have multiple rows of information because of the mid semester break, and if the class is taught in alternate weeks. Look carefully at the exact days, times and weeks that a class is taught to help you with your selection.

    Note that formal teaching activities commence 10 minutes after the start time for that class. This is primarily to allow for travelling time to venues across the campus.

    When you enrol, you may need to choose a 'Related Class' such as a tutorial. In some cases you may be automatically enrolled into a related class and this will be identified on the screen.

    You can select the swap button and swap classes within the same course (eg from one tutorial to another) or swap to another course.

    Select Save after each course if you are happy with your choices. As this process can take a few seconds, DON'T click repeatedly on the save button - this won't speed things up. You will see on the screen if your class add has been successful (this means you are enrolled), or unsuccessful (this means you are not enrolled and will need to seek a different class, or course).

    Continue to enrol until you've finished adding all of your classes for the semester.

    You then have the option to select another semester or term and to add relevant courses there as well.

    Remember to enrol in classes for all relevant semesters/terms at the beginning of the academic year. This will help you plan your studies for the academic year, as well as reserve your place in a preferred course.

Stage 3: complete

  • Step 6: Print your personal timetable

    Once you've finished adding all of your classes for all your semesters/terms for the academic year, you can print out your enrolment list (select printer friendly version) from the top menu bar or save the details electronically for your own records.

    You can also view and print a full class timetable list (via 'Show Class Times') or a week-by-week timetable grid (via 'Weekly Timetable').

  • Step 7: Student ID Card

    Once you have enrolled for all the semesters/terms in your academic year of study, you can update your student identity card. Continuing students will require a sticker update to their existing card, while new students (commencing students) can collect their card from card services.
