Self-service facilities
There are a number of self-service facilities available on campus (North Terrace) to assist University of Adelaide staff to film and edit their own learning video content.
Our recording studios utilise the same audio and touch panel technology that you will find in any common teaching area across the university campuses.

Barr Smith Library Recording Studio
The Barr Smith Library (BSL) recording studio is a self-service video recording facility and is located in the Barr Smith Library on Level 2.
At the Barr Smith Library recording studio, you can:
- record a “talking head” style learning video on green screen or flat colour
- appear in front of your pre-prepared slide presentation using the green screen live key functionality, and
- host a panel discussion or interview
The studio has an inbuilt PC that can be used for controlling your presentation, or you can bring your own device which you can connect through an HDMI input.
Remember, all you need to get started is a blank USB 2.0 stick (8G - 32G) to record your video content to – 1GB = 20minutes. Bring water to keep hydrated and your pre-prepared and rehearsed learning content!

Digital Presentation Suite
The Digital Presentation Suite is an exciting new hybrid studio facility at the University of Adelaide.
The suite features a fully automated self-serve facilities for staff to record 4K asynchronous learning content and deliver synchronous live online teaching. Members of the LEI Media Production team are onsite during business hours and available to provide training and support to users in the studio.
The Digital Presentation Suite features:
- Fully automated 4K studio
- Teleprompter
- Motorised green screen and neutral grey background options
- “Live Key” functionality to replace the green screen with content live
- Two-person interview set
- Overhead camera to record a demonstration or annotation
- Dual source recording
- Zoom PC for live teaching
The studio has an inbuilt PC that can be used for controlling your presentation, or you can bring your own device which you can connect wirelessly through VIVI.
Remember, all you need to get started is a blank USB 3.0 stick (16GB - 32G) to record your video content to – 1GB = 10 minutes.

Getting to the DPS
The DPS is accessed from level two of the Hughes building.
The suite is accessible 24/7 by UoA staff swipe card.
Booking the DPS
The DPS can be booked by all staff through the Syllabus web room booking portal.

Napier 112 Recording Studio
The Napier 112 Recording Studio is a high quality recording facility with a focus on audio capture. The studio is designed to produce:
- audio podcasts and interviews
- Zoom interview recordings and webinars
- narration for PowerPoints and other presentations, and
- Picture-in-Picture recording
The studio has an inbuilt PC that can be used for controlling your presentation, or you can bring your own device which you can connect through an HDMI input.
Remember, all you need to get started is a blank USB 2.0 stick (8G - 32G) to record your video content to – 1GB = 20minutes. Bring water to keep hydrated and your pre-prepared and rehearsed learning content!

Engineering Maths 206 Recording Studio
The Engineering Maths Recording Studio is equipped with a high end Lightboard to capture live lectures using liquid chalk markers.
The studio has an inbuilt PC that can be used for controlling your presentation, or you can bring your own device which you can connect through an HDMI input.
Remember, all you need to get started is a blank USB 2.0 stick (8G - 32G) to record your video content to – 1GB = 20minutes. Bring water to keep hydrated and your pre-prepared and rehearsed learning content!

Barr Smith Library 229 edit suites
Please contact bsl226studio@adelaide.edu.au before making a booking for the BSL229 edit suites.
The Barr Smith Library edit suites (BSL229) are situated directly across from the Barr Smith Library recording studio on Level 2 of Barr Smith Library.
There are 2 iMac computers available which have software installed to edit and produce multimedia content for learning delivery. Each machine is ready to use and includes the following installed software:
- Adobe CC Creative Suite including Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
- TechSmith Camtasia Studio 9
Before you get started, watch this short “how to” video which will guide you through the process of using the BSL229 edit suites.
Booking a self-service facility
Use your Outlook calendar to check facility availability and to make a booking by adding the facility email to your calendar invite from the table below:

Once the facility is added, you will be able to see the availability by clicking on 'Scheduling'. Some of the key things to remember are:
- bookings are for a maximum of 3 hours, per user, per day
- same-day bookings may NOT be accepted
- bookings are tentative until they have been accepted/confirmed by a delegate of the Media Production Team
- contact mediaproduction@adelaide.edu.au if you require any assistance with your booking
- Barr Smith Library 226, Napier 112 and Engineering Maths 206 studios are accessible by all staff by using your swipe card, once your booking has been approved.
- to access the BSL229 edit suites - access keys can be collected from a member of the Media Production team and key collection will be arranged at the time of booking.
