  • Biography/ Background

As a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a subspecialist in maternal-fetal medicine, my research addresses questions of major importance in the field of maternal and perinatal health, such as ways to reduce the adverse sequelae of preterm birth, pre-eclampsia and diabetes. Our research team, ARCH (Australian Research Centre for Health of Women and Babies), does this through conducting, promoting and supporting randomised trials and research synthesis and through implementation and translational research.

My work has contributed to the development of evidence-based medicine in Australia and South East Asia, through capacity building and establishing networks, leading to research that translates into improvements in maternal and infant health. This is evidenced by numerous high quality publications in the highest impact factor journals and Cochrane reviews with major influence on the international research agenda and international and national policy and practice. I have published 164 primary research papers in refereed international journals and 69 Cochrane reviews. I have had continuous research funding over many years at both national and international levels and recognition through numerous invitations to speak at international meetings and to join key policy groups.
