Les is a physician board certified in public health/preventive medicine with MD from Loma Linda University and MPH from Harvard University in Health Systems. Since immigrating to South Australia he has been Associate Professor (Adjunct) at University of Adelaide where he teaches health policy.
His career has included international health (7 years in Africa and consultation on HIV prevention and child survival), public health (15 years as chief public health officer of a local public health agency and of two US states, Deputy Commissioner of Health for Health Policy in the US state of Virginia) and corrections health (15 years Deputy Commissioner/Chief Medical Officer for New York state prisons responsible to develop and operate a health care system for 70,000 inmates in 70 prisons.) He has held faculty appointments at Oregon Health Sciences University, Loma Linda University, Columbia University, University at Albany of State University of New York, City University of New York.
