  • Biography/ Background

    Nastaran Mazloumi is a Research Scientist with a multidisciplinary skills in marine science and fisheries. She has a PhD in Fish physiology and biochemistry, Masters in Fisheries Engineering-Aquaculture and Propagation and a Bachelor in Fisheries Engineering-Marine ecology. She is working as a Research Scientist at the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

    Nastaran is a Scientist with experience in the design and conduct of research projects in fisheries, aquatic physiology, biology and related fields. She applies quantitative methods in developing and managing commonwealth fisheries in order to ensure the sustainable harvesting of the marine resources. She has a genuine interest in fish physiology and biology and is conducting range of researches about the biology of harvested fish species and their life history under a changing climate.

    Nastaran is also a professional visual artist. She spends most of her free time painting and drawing in her studio. She explores variety of media and techniques in the field of art to showcase her creativities. For example, illustration, animation, digital imaging and sculpture. She tells stories through the portraits and fictions that she creates. She draws inspiration from her own experiences as well as from nature, fairytales and various mythologies.

    PhD scholar (2012- 2016), thesis title: "The physiological responses of King George whiting to a changing environment"

    Bachelor of science, (2005-2009), The University of Tehran- thesis title: "Hydrocortisone treatment may enhance survival and stocking of Beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) in estuaries of the Caspian Sea"

    Master of science, (2009-2011), The university of Tehran, thesis title: "A Histological study on ovary and oocytes of Rutilus frisii kutum before and after fertilization".

    Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence, University of Adelaide, (2016)

    Awarded the Adelaide International Scholarship (ASI) for PhD study at The University of Adelaide, (2012-2016)

    Nature Foundation SA grant winner for $3000 (2012), South Australia

    Awarded “Best People Choice Poster” presenter at the school of Biological Sciences, University of Adelaide, (2014)

    First ranked student in Bachelor and Master of Science, (2005-2011).
