"He'd do it with anything ... a hole in the ozone layer"
The Theatre Guild opens its 2019 season with 'Don Juan in Soho', written by Patrick Marber in 2006, inspired by Molière's 1665 comedy, and revised and updated by Marber in 2017 to include contemporary references.
DJ, a "true poet of the flesh", is living it up in modern day Soho, sleeping his way through endless conquests with no thought to the consequences. He is utterly reprehensible and indefensibly filthy - "Satan in a suit from Savile Row" - and his long-suffering assistant Stan can barely keep up with covering his tracks. But by abandoning his new bride Elvira on their honeymoon, our anti-hero DJ goes too far, incurs the wrath of her brothers and is forced to confront his actions. Then all hell lets loose!
Marber's play is overtly and unashamedly raunchy, full of foul language and frequently shocking behaviour. It's a hilarious satire on the idiocies of our age, notably our obsession with ourselves, our expectation that every whim will be catered for and our need always to be the centre of attention.
"Please don't be charmed. He is not a loveable rogue. He really isn't."
Warning Message: A contemporary play containing coarse language and simulated acts of a sexual nature which some people may find confronting. For mature audiences only.

Telemann Viola Concerto in G major*
Elgar Serenade for Strings
Holst Brook Green Suite
Elizabeth Layton leads the Elder Conservatorium's finest string players in two English jewels by Elgar and Holst. Respighi's Third Suite of Ancient Airs and Dances is popular for its quiet nostalgia, and Telemann's rich, lyrical Viola Concerto is enough to make anyone fall in love with its solo instrument.
