carolsMembers of the community will join the University of Adelaide's staff and students in song at the free annual Carols on Campus on Thursday 6 December.

Carols on Campus features popular Christmas carols led by the talents of the University’s Elder Conservatorium of Music. This much-loved event fills Bonython Hall which will sparkly with Christmas decorations.

“Carols on Campus underlines the University’s commitment to the arts and performing for the enjoyment of the wider community,” says Associate Professor Carl Crossin, OAM, Head of Voice, Opera, Conducting & Ensembles at the Elder Conservatorium.

In its ninth year, the event brings people together to celebrate the festive season and help close the academic year.

"Soloists and choristers, percussionists, and the Bonython Hall organ played by Karl Geiger, will showcase the talents of the University's Elder Conservatorium of Music by filling Bonython Hall with festive music and singing,” says Associate Professor Crossin.

"Members of the community will join in song with staff and students from right across the University, helping to make this is a marvelous annual event – one we're all proud to be a part of," he says.

The event will feature many popular Christmas carols and some lesser-known ones, a full academic procession, and readings of Christmas texts – some unusual such as Dr Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and poems by University staff.

"Among our most popular performances at Carols on Campus are those that draw on music from other cultures including a carol from Nigeria. This year's Carols will continue to surprise and excite audiences with something a little bit unexpected," Associate Professor Crossin says.

People who attend Carols on Campus are encouraged to bring a present to place under the University's Christmas Gifting Tree in Bonython Hall. The presents are distributed by The Smith Family to children in need.
