Location: Level 3, The Hub

More information: Visit website

A sequel to Superheroes: Golden Vengeance, this photographic comic strip by Chris Herzfeld is on display on level 3 Hub until 31 October 2016 during Barr Smith Library hours.

Superheroes: Golden Vengeance and its sequel Superheroes: Toxic Debris are Parallax Graphic collaborations and form a collection focused on heroes.

The work analogises good vs evil and the archetype of heroes, and brings to the fore the daily bombardment of imagery and the interplay between sacred stories and crass consumerism in modern culture.

Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide Executive Dean's Public Lecture Series presents: Health Issues in Two Disadvantaged Communities

The mainly indigenous population of the Kimberley area of northern WA is separated from the people of Ermera district of Timor Leste by the Timor Sea, which is the subject of a sovereignty dispute between the governments of Australia and East Timor. The two communities share the problem of social and economic disadvantage. While there are similarities between the public health problems in each community there are also some areas of contrast. In this presentation Dr Gun will compare and contrast the public health concerns of the two communities.

About the presenter:
Dr Richard Gun AO graduated in Medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1960. He is a Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Public Health, having retired as Senior Lecturer in Occupational and Environmental Health in 2002. He has published over 50 papers on subjects such as cancer rates in veterans of the British nuclear tests in Australia, cancer rates in the petroleum industry, occupational injury prevention, occupational heat stress and whiplash injury. He is a former Censor in what is now the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr Gun served as Chairman of the Interim National Occupational Health and Safety Commission, 1983-84. He was Member of the Australian Parliament from 1969 to 1975. Since retiring from occupational medicine in 2007 Dr Gun has made several visits to East Timor working in a rural health centre, and to the Kimberley area in WA working in a mainly aboriginal community.
