Outstanding contributions to student learning have been recognised across the University of Adelaide, with six staff being awarded citations from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC).

The citations, valued at $10,000 each, are awarded annually to both academic and professional staff who demonstrate "sustained dedication to improving the quality of the student learning experience".

"At the University of Adelaide, awards have been made to staff who have a unique impact on students through top-quality, inspirational learning environments," says Professor James McWha, Vice-Chancellor and President.

"This exceptional teaching is critical to students' success. When students find their studies to be lively and engaging, they embrace their work and appreciate the learning opportunities given to them.

"Each of this year's citation winners is to be commended for the quality of their efforts and for their positive influence on our students."

The following citations have been awarded to University of Adelaide staff:

Dr Steven Grainger (School of Mechanical Engineering)
For enhancing the engagement, learning outcomes and achievements of the diverse student body through the development of open-ended cooperative learning project frameworks

Dr Natalie Williamson (School of Chemistry and Physics - Chemistry)
For combining humour, enthusiasm, clarity and strategic activities to arouse curiosity among chemistry students, encouraging a willingness to question and seek answers for deeper understanding

Ms Catherine Snelling and Ms Sophie Karanicolas (School of Dentistry)
For sustained excellence in team teaching in a lively, imaginative and engaging manner that inspires enthusiastic, independent learning in the field of oral health

Dr Ben McCann (School of Humanities - French Studies)

Mr Joshua McCarthy (School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design)

The citations will be presented to staff at a ceremony at the State Library of SA on Thursday 29 July.
