About 20% of total greenhouse gas emissions globally come from agriculture - but does that mean agriculture has an obligation to reduce its emissions?

Would greenhouse gas reduction schemes decrease Australia's international competitiveness in food and fibre production, along with our export earnings? How would it impact on the profitability of Australian farms?

Following its highly successful first event earlier this year, the University of Adelaide's Waite Research Institute is hosting the next Debate @ The Waite to tackle these issues.

Members of the public will hear from two teams of experts and will vote for the winning team based on the arguments presented on the night.

Presented as part of the University of Adelaide's inaugural Research Week, the Debate @ The Waite will be hosted by Ian Doyle, President of Rural Media SA, and features the following teams:

Team for the affirmative

Professor Phil Hynd, Deputy Head, Animal and Veterinary Sciences, University of Adelaide
Dr Murray Unkovich, Lecturer in Soil Science, University of Adelaide
Mick Keogh, Executive Director, Australian Farm Institute

Team for the negative

Professor Mike Young, Executive Director, The Environment Institute, University of Adelaide
Professor Wayne Meyer, Chair of Natural Resource Science, University of Adelaide
Professor Tony Peacock, Chief Executive, Cooperative Research Centres Association
