Launch of the HDR Supervision Community of Practice

On Thursday May 20, 2021 the HDR Supervision Community of Practice was launched at an event in Ingkarni Wardli.

The group of around 40 staff heard from CoP sponsor Professor Michael Liebelt, and Co-Facilitators Professor Natalie Edwards and Associate Professor Tania Crotti, about their aspirations for the group in 2021 and beyond.

A highlight was the guest speaker, Professor Alistair McColloch who presented 'Changing Students, Changing PhD & Challenging Supervision'. Professor McColloch discussed how doctoral education has changed in the past 25 years - with not only the number of research degree students expanding significantly across the globe, but the characteristics and diversity of these students also seeing many changes. He addressed how today’s supervisor faces a very different situation to that faced by colleagues in the recent past.

Much discussion ensued following the presentation, with all attendees agreeing that the CoP was a welcome addition to their internal network and support base.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 7 September 10-11:30am.
