The University of Adelaide says help is available to secondary students who have today received their SACE results and aren't sure what to do next.

"We offer our congratulations to the thousands of students who have completed SACE and have received their results today. It's a great achievement and hopefully most of them are feeling happy about their results," says the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic), Professor Pascale Quester.

"For those who are not feeling so happy - or if they've done much better than expected, and they're having a change of heart about what to study at uni - our main message for them is: don't panic, we're here to help you.

"The best thing students can do is to contact the University of Adelaide and talk to one of our student advisers about their circumstances."

Professor Quester says students shouldn't feel that their current uni preferences and the results they've received today have "locked them in".

"They really have a lot of freedom for choice, and we can provide advice that will help them to work through those important decisions."

Students still have a couple of weeks to finalise their preferences for university study. The SATAC deadline is Monday 7 January.

"They can speak to our student advisers about what options are open to them, what alternative pathways might be available into their program of choice, and other key information that will help to take the panic out of their decision-making," Professor Quester says.

"Today and tomorrow will be especially busy days for our student advisers, who will be providing advice to potential students either on the phone or online."

The University of Adelaide is holding a Change of Preference Information Night from 4.00pm-7.00pm on Thursday 3 January 2013.

"As well as speaking with our student advisers now, the Change of Preference Information Night is a perfect time to talk through your options. Academic staff will be on hand to answer all of your questions," Professor Quester says.
