Dual Nationals - Who's got you covered?

If you are a Dual National, there may be implications for you if you are planning on travelling to the country of your second nationality under the University’s travel insurance policy.

The University of Adelaide's travel insurance policy covers unlimited medical however, unlimited medical benefits are payable only in the absence of the injured person being able to access benefits in the country of destination.

If you are a Dual National travelling to the country of your second nationality you may be able to access benefits under that country’s local health benefits scheme (the Medicare equivalent).

If you have the ability to access medical benefits in that country you are no longer entitled to claim medical benefits under the University’s travel insurance policy.

Exceptions apply if you are a British/Australian Dual National or a New Zealand/Australian Dual National as a reciprocal benefits agreement is in place.

Dual Nationals travelling under the University’s travel insurance policy will still be covered for unlimited repatriation cover (with a zero excess), liability cover and a number of other benefits.

If you are a Dual National and wish to discuss your situation please contact the Legal and Risk Branch Helpdesk via email or on 8313 4539.
