Insurance deadline for notifiable events
As we approach the end of our insurance policy year (1 November), it’s time to review matters within your schools, faculties, branches and business units and report any notifiable events or potential claims to the Insurance Office. If you previously notified an event, and have an update, let us know about that too.
A notifiable event is something that could result in a claim against the University. For examples, damage to property or equipment, an adverse event in a human research project, a complaint or threat of legal action.
Reporting notifiable events ensures the University can use the insurance it purchases when required for its people, activities and assets. Anyone can report a notifiable event: staff, students, titleholders, volunteers, visitors, contractors and staff of controlled entities.
The deadline for reporting notifiable events is Friday 17 October 2025. Any new events that arise after this date need to be notified to the Insurance Office as soon as they occur, or as soon as they become known to you, and before 31 October 2025 to attract the benefit of insurance cover.
