Request An Item From The Collection
From March 2020, requests can only be placed on items that are held at another campus library. For example, if the book you need is at the Waite Campus Library and you normally study or work at the North Terrace campus, you can “request” for the item to be transferred to the Barr Smith Library. You will be notified when the item is ready for collection.
Please see our regularly updated library reponse to COVID-19 page for more information regarding service changes and additional library support for students and staff.
Let the library save you time by delivering the books you need to the library of your choice, or the scanned book chapter or journal article directly to your device.
You can request an item from the library's collections be brought to the library of your choice, ready for you to come in and collect (so if the book you need is at the Waite Campus Library, and you study or work at the North Terrace campus, the library will courier it to the Barr Smith Library and put it on the requests pick-up shelf). Or, if you would prefer, the library can scan and send through a copy of a book chapter or journal article directly to your device (within copyright regulations).
Request a book or other material
You can have the book you're after delivered directly to the Requests Pick Up shelf of your branch library.
To request an item from one of our collections, find the title in Library Search and click on the item. If not already signed in, click Sign in to request and select the Request option.
- If the item is available on the shelf at a different library it will usually be ready for collection within 48 hours.
- If the item you're requesting is located in offsite storage, delivery may take longer than 48 hours. Please speak to an Ask Library staff member for current turnaround times for offsite storage items.
- If the item is currently out on loan, the user who has borrowed the item will have their due date shortened to one week. If the loaned item is returned on time, it should then be ready for collection within 8 days.
Once your request becomes available you will be notified via SMS and email. It will then be put onto the requests pick up shelf and held there for seven days.
If you're a remote student, select Personal Delivery as your pick-up location, and your item will be posted out to you.
Request a High Use item
High Use items are unable to be requested if out on loan, but you can book a specific time to use the items. Find the title in Library Search and click on the item. If not already signed in, click Sign in to request and select the Request option. Then select Booking under Request Type. Choose your start and end time (be aware this must be 3 hours only).
You can then pick the item off the shelf at the beginning of your booking time. If your item is not on the shelf, speak to an Ask Library staff member.
Please note: High Use items can only be requested by University of Adelaide staff and students.
You can check the progress of your requests at any time by signing in to MyLibrary.
Request a scanned journal article or book chapter
Get scanned copies of journal articles and book chapters from our print collections delivered directly to your device.
To request a scan, find the title in Library Search and click on the item. If not already signed in, click Sign in to request and select the Pages/Chapter Scan option. Delivery is within 48 hours, where possible. Please note that scanning requests aren't available on items that are on loan at the time of the request. All requests are subject to copyright regulations, which essentially means that the library can scan and send 1 chapter from a book (up to 10% of the work) or 1 article from a journal issue.
