Dr Monica Kerr

Dr Monica Kerr is the inaugural Director of Researcher Development and Director of Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST). In these roles, Monica is responsible for the strategy, coordination, and framework for delivery of a range of career and professional development programs for all researchers at all career stages across the University. Monica is a scientist by training with more than a decade of experience working in the area of upskilling PhDs and researchers to improve employability and career outcomes.

Monica has held a senior management position at one of the oldest scientific organisations in the US, the New York Academy of Sciences, where she directed an international career and professional development program for young scientists. More recently, Monica worked at the CRC for Cell Therapy Manufacturing, where she established their flagship entrepreneurial PhD program, and at UniSA Ventures, where she managed the launch of Venture Catalyst, a government-backed seed fund for student-led startups. Monica regularly presents to universities and organisations on career planning for PhDs and has also delivered specialised courses on entrepreneurship, technology commercialisation, and leadership.

Monica obtained a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology from Harvard Medical School, where she also worked as an Instructor and Curriculum Fellow and was the recipient of two teaching awards. She has undergone training at the Harvard Macy Institute on educational leadership and innovation and is a certified MBTI® practitioner from the American Management Association.

Monica is enthusiastic about developing and implementing programs that help researchers realise their potential and maximise their chances of career success and satisfaction.

Monica is currently on secondment in another role within the university.

Katy Dolman

Manager of CaRST

Katy Dolman

Katy Dolman is the Manager, Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST). Katy has over 15 years’ experience in Higher Education, working to support students from undergraduate through to PhD level to achieve successful outcomes, and to develop their research, interpersonal and career skills. Her experience includes supporting PhD students and higher degree by research initiatives for more than 8 years. Katy has also worked as a research scientist in an independent research institute, focused on children’s health. Most recently before joining CaRST, Katy supported coursework students with their career and transferable skill development through her role as Manager, Internships at the University of Adelaide.

Erin

CaRST Officers

Dr Erin Smith

Dr Erin Smith is the Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) officer. Having worked in research in industry and academia, Erin understands the importance of gaining skills outside of the general HDR program. Erin has a PhD in medicinal chemistry from Curtin University, and has worked as a researcher for Epichem, Bayer, Bionomics and more recently, the University of Adelaide. Erin is passionate about helping students gain the skills they need to excel in the real world.

Charlotte Le Lan

Dr Charlotte Le Lan

Dr Charlotte Le Lan is the Career and Research Skills Training (CaRST) officer. She has a PhD in Biochemistry Biophysics from the University Denis Diderot Paris 7 and an Advanced Diploma in Marketing. She has worked as a researcher at Flinders University and in Singapore at Nanyang University. She understands the importance of continuous learning and skills development. She is passionate about helping students studying and working better, identifying their transferable skills, achieving their goals and better understanding the opportunities available for their future career.
