Counselling service for volunteers

The University of Adelaide is pleased to extend access to staff counselling services to all formally registered volunteers of The University of Adelaide.

The service provides confidential short-term, solutions focused counselling, designed to help you explore and implement strategies to address issues which may be having an impact on your wellbeing.

The University of Adelaide offer a choice of two providers. You can access up to three one hour sessions per calendar year under most circumstances and up to five one hour sessions in certain circumstances such as in the case of matters involving sexual harassment or sexual assault. Our providers have also received specific training in, or have considerable understanding of the challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals.

The service is confidential.  Information regarding visits or any other details will not be relayed to any other party.  Statistical data is prepared quarterly regarding usage, but this information does not include individual identifying information.

The counselling services can assist with issues we may face in our work or personal life such as:

  • Interpersonal conflict
  • Grief / trauma counselling
  • Dealing with difficult personalities
  • Fatigue and perceived inability to cope with workplace demands
  • Dealing with change
  • Building resilience and managing stress
  • Anger management
  • Alcohol, tobacco and substance dependence
  • Relationship and family problems
  • Emotional and mental health issues e.g. anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Note: Volunteers who are also current students of the University of Adelaide should access counselling and other support services through Student Counselling Services, Ground Floor, Horace Lamb Building, North Terrace campus (8313 5663)

How to access the volunteer counselling service

  1. You can book a telephone session or book a face to face consultation with a counsellor.
  2. The University of Adelaide offer a choice of two providers. You can choose to engage with either provider. 
  3. To access these services, ring during business hours or email to make a booking - quote the code Vol3978.
