HSW Stakeholder consultation - Electrical safety management (V1.0)

Human Resources have been working on a new dedicated HSW Handbook chapter for “Electrical safety management.

(Noting that the specific requirements for Electrical safety management have been taken out of the HSW Handbook chapter Plant/equipment safety management.)

The key responsibilities/sections of the chapter for noting are:

  1. Alignment of the responsibilities to the WHS Regulations and Code of Practice Managing electrical risks in the workplace 2020 (SA).
  2. Inclusion of specific examples of electrical hazards and control measures (Appendix A).
  3. Provision of a tool to assist areas to determine when electrical testing is/isn’t required (Appendix B.1 – Decision tool)
  4. Provision of electrical inspection and testing intervals for the testing and tagging of electrical equipment in line with the Code of Practice and AS/NZS 3760 (2010) In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment  (Appendix B.2)
  5. Inclusion of the requirements for new equipment (in accordance with the Code of Practice Managing electrical risks in the workplace 2020 (SA) section 3.2 and AS/NZS 3760 section 2.4.2.1
  6. Inclusion of links to information on the requirements where there are (1) Electrical installations – battery systems for use with power conversion equipment and (2) Solar (Photovoltaic) systems (e.g. a unit that converts energy from sunlight into electrical energy).  

Note: that consultation over the Chapter will also be advertised through Staff News under the Policy section.
